The style and essence of this “Under African Skies” Safari takes
you back to the bygone days of Africa’s exploration. Our route
takes the time to explore the contrasts, extremes and
continually moving wildlife of northern Botswana — from its
waterless Savute channel to the broad vistas of the Linyanti
with its wooded deciduous forests, to the crystal-clear
waterways and fertile green islands of the Okavango Delta, and
the roaring cascades of Victoria Falls. |

Chobe River boat cruise & Linyanti Trails Camp |

After a full breakfast at the Lodge, leave Zambia by safari vehicle and
enter the Chobe National Park in Botswana at the Kazungula border, a
point where the four countries of Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe
meet. Chobe National Park is famous for its vast herds of elephants and
unique species such as the elusive puku and Chobe bushbuck that move to
the river during the hottest hours of the day.
Board a
catamaran-style shaded boat to enjoy a light lunch served during a
cruise on the Chobe River, after which you depart by light aircraft in
the late afternoon for the Linyanti region. From the airstrip enjoy a
game drive en route to your pre-erected campsite. |

Linyanti Trails Camp
The northeastern corner of the Linyanti is famed for its
myriad of changing landscapes with sweeping views, from
riverine to savannah and from forest to plains. Daily
activities will be determined onsite, depending upon local
conditions and animal activity. On one of your two full
days, you will depart early in the morning and stop for
lunch at a scenic spot with a sweeping view of the Linyanti
waterways. Each afternoon, after a siesta in hammocks, there
is the possibility of a canoe trip returning to camp at
dusk. (Canoe activities are not always possible, depending
on local hippo movements within the area.) The Linyanti
region’s life-giving perennial waters attract herds of
wildlife that walk well-worn game paths to quench their
thirst in the dry season. Predators follow in their
footsteps and, coupled with the area’s diversity of habitat,
make for exciting game viewing. |

Lechwe Island Camp, northeastern Okavango Delta
|
|
Traveling west from Linyanti Trails, you’ll stop en route for game
sightings. This long but interesting drive gives the perfect introduction to
the varying habitats of a dry and flat northern Botswana, from the open
savannah of the Savuti Channel, known as the “Stolen River”, to lagoons with
a plethora of wildlife, to the geographically interesting Selinda Spillway
(Great Rift Valley fault line). This can be a full-day game / transfer
drive, with lunch en route at a shady place in the Savuti Channel. Arrive at
your pre-erected campsite in the mid-afternoon, in time for a short sunset
game drive. |

Overnight: Lechwe Island Camp (3 nights) |
|
|
|
|
|

|
|
|
|
| |
Lechwe
Island Camp
is located in the southwestern sector of the Selinda
private concession (a limited access area), in a
seasonally flooded portion of the Okavango
Delta where it joins into the Selinda Spillway. Your
campsite is situated on a wooded island overlooking a
floodplain area, the channel in front of camp
alternately flooded or dry, depending on the
season. Activities here concentrate around the bushy and
wooded islands, open plains and the seasonally flooded
channels surrounding the camp. In this area, local
populations of plains animals allow for game drives by
day and night. Your experience may be enhanced on nature
walks, where your guide is able to delve into intriguing
topics such as tracking, medicinal uses of plants and a
full array of smaller invertebrates. |

Xigera Mokoro Trails, Okavango Delta |
|
|
|
Today, fly by light aircraft to the water-filled paradise of the private
Xigera area, within the Moremi Game Reserve. Xigera is the ultimate
Delta experience, with serene waters flowing through innumerable
channels around remote islands and a profusion of plant and animal life.
There is no better exposure to the Okavango Delta than to travel through
it by mokoro (dug-out canoe), walking and camping out on a vegetated
island – all essential elements of the Xigera Mokoro Trails experience.

Overnight: Xigera Mokoro Trails (2 nights)

|
|
|
|
|

Xigera Mokoro Trails
is set right in the heart of the permanently flooded
sector of the Okavango Delta in Moremi Game Reserve.
Accommodation at Xigera Mokoro Trails is in
3m x 3m (9 x 9 ft)
gauze framed dome tents
equipped with cots, bedrolls with crisp linen,
duvets and pillows, towels and toiletries. Accommodation
is slightly simpler than at the other camps, with 2
separate “short drop” toilets and bucket shower
enclosures. This is because equipment must be moved
across water on mokoros
(dug-out canoes),
which restricts the amount of equipment that can be
carried.
Activities
include mokoro rides and walking safaris on inner remote
islands, which enable up-close encounters with an
excellent diversity of birdlife (including Pel’s fishing
owl), frogs and a myriad of game species - some
specially adapted to water, such as the rare sitatunga
and the familiar red lechwe. |

What to Expect |
|
|
|
|
|
| |
All camps in Botswana are private and for
our group use only. The camps aim to provide simple
camping comfort with personal
service. Hurricane lanterns and a good campfire
light up the camp in the evening while delicious meals
are prepared around the campfire by the safari staff,
creating a great atmosphere. To ensure the ‘camping
wilderness’ feel, the dining area is under the stars
(although we erect a bush dining tent in the event of
sporadic rains). A full dining table, metal director
chairs and bush style stainless steel place settings and
drinking glasses are set up to accentuate simple
serviced comfort in pure wild areas.
The 3m x 3m (9 x
9 ft) dome tents are well ventilated with a mini veranda
and individual hand basins for each guest outside the
tent. Stretcher beds, bedrolls with crisp linen, duvets
and pillows, towels and toiletries are provided. In
addition, there is a shared bedside table, fiber floor
mat and a 12v reading light provided. The tents are
large enough to stand in and move about easily.
Bathroom
facilities are shared between guests. For every 4
guests, there is one shower enclosure and one toilet
enclosure, spaced generously apart. Each shower
enclosure has a table with amenities, hurricane lantern,
tin basin and a mirror. The shower is a pioneer-style
steel bucket shower hoisted in a tree, with water heated
on request from the campfire. The toilet enclosures
include a “short drop” toilet.
The entire safari
is guided and hosted by a professional guide, who shares
his in-depth knowledge to present a seamless safari
experience. There are 2 camp assistants in addition to
the guide. |

Modes of
Transportation |
|
|
|
|
|
| |
Flying on private light aircraft charters
and overland transfers in open-air vehicles provides
both a bird’s-eye view and an in-depth experience of the
contrasting landscapes of Botswana.
Your
specially designed safari vehicles are extended 4 x 4
Land Rovers or Land Cruisers that seat eight guests in
comfort. These vehicles are designed so that all guests
have good all-round visibility (although the rear part
of the vehicle is closed to lessen the dust entering the
vehicle while driving). The large open window and roof
areas offer good visibility and promote photographic
opportunities, while at the same time being able to
close for seasonal rainy weather en-route. Each vehicle
is custom-built and includes a fridge and a small
collection of field guide books. |

everyone. It is important that this style of safari suites your
level of comfort. If you desire a more luxurious experience contact
us to discuss options. We can also provide a pre or post safari
excursion if you would like to explore other areas in southern
Africa. Please
