history of each of the five major regions in Alaska.
Referred to as "a window on space over the western Arctic," Poker Flat
Research Range is the world’s largest overland rocket range. The only
high-altitude rocket range in the US, it offers many advantages to
researchers, such as overflight and landing rights on a large land area,
a million-acre recovery zone, and complete meteorological support. There
are five launch pads, including one equipped with a movable launcher
enclosure, which is used as protection from severe winter weather. More
than 236 large high-altitude sounding rockets have been launched since
the facility was established. Join us on a behind-the-scenes tour of
this rocket range.
Explore the aurora from various perspectives. Our exclusive enrichment
lectures will provide scientific explanations of the auroral phenomenon,
the Sun-Earth connection, and how to predict and photograph displays.
