Known as a crossroads of civilizations for over 12,000 years, Libya is a land that is as beautiful as it is vast. From Roman seaside ruins, to desert oases, to prehistoric cave paintings, and sand dunes stretching literally hundreds of miles, Libya’s natural beauty, culture and mystique have drawn explorers and adventurers for many years.

The March 29, 2006 total solar eclipse will pass over Libya at its border with Chad and Niger, and then travel north through the Libyan Desert before crossing the Mediterranean into Turkey. TravelQuest International and Sky & Telescope invite you to travel with us to stand in the Moon’s shadow from our private eclipse camp, located on

the eclipse centerline deep in the Libyan Sahara, a site that offers arguably the best viewing prospects along the entire eclipse track.

This journey will include an in-depth look into the capitol city of Tripoli, as well as excursions to UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Sabratha and Leptis Magna, two of the best-preserved ancient Roman ruins to be found in the world. We’ll also travel overland from Benghazi to Jalu Oasis, and to our centerline Eclipse Tent Village offering over 4-minutes of totality.

You can enhance your eclipse experience with two special add-on programs. Our first offering is a trip to Ghadames Oasis – Jewel of the Libyan Desert, or join our Libyan Desert 4x4 Adventure deep into the Akakus Mountains to visit remote Berber oases, scenic mountain ranges and remote, seldom visited, cave painting and engraving sites.

While hospitality in Libya is warm and friendly, its tourist infrastructure - hotels, restaurants and ground transportation - is still developing. Travelers joining this trip must do so with a sense of adventure and flexibility.

With the lifting of US sanctions, Libya is facing dynamic change. This is a special opportunity to witness an amazing celestial event in a remote, mysterious land. This tour will sell out quickly - reserve your space today either by using our on-line reservation form, or by contacting us directly at 1-800-830-1998
