Toledo |
|
| |
|
Our day trip today will take
up to Toledo, the intellectual and spiritual heart of Spain.
Inhabited since prehistoric times, it was once the capital of
Spain and is dominated by the Alcázar, a hilltop stronghold
built in the 11th century on the ruins of an old Muslim fort. Our
walking tour will include a visit to the Gothic Cathedral and Tránsito
Synagogue, and lunch (featuring the region’s |
|
 |
finest wines) in an historic building. After returning to Madrid,
join us this evening for a gathering
with members of the Madrid Astronomical Society to discuss
tomorrow’s annular eclipse. |

Annular Eclipse Outside Madrid
|
|
| |
|
|
|
We’ll
depart the hotel early for our specially selected
eclipse-viewing site where members of the Madrid’s
Astronomical Society will join us. Here we'll see the
first bite taken from the Sun at 9:40 a.m. (less than 90
minutes after sunrise) as the Moon begins its journey
across the solar face. Slightly more than an hour later,
we'll experience a remarkable 4 minutes 11 seconds of
annularity. During this time the Moon almost completely
hides the Sun, leaving only a bright ring of sunlight
hanging in a darkened sky. |
